About the studio
A small, technically driven photography practice based in Vancouver, BC, working across editorial, wedding, commercial, and event disciplines.
Mintcspark was founded in Vancouver in 2018 by a photographer who came to the trade through photojournalism rather than portrait studio work. That origin matters: the discipline of capturing unscripted, high-stakes moments under real-world constraints — deadline pressure, variable light, no second takes — shaped the studio's entire technical methodology. We now operate as a micro-team of two full-time photographers and a rotating roster of trained assistants, having delivered over 280 projects across BC since opening. Our clients range from independent musicians and published authors needing press-ready portrait series, to mid-size technology companies requiring brand photography for investor decks and product launches, to couples planning weddings across BC's Sunshine Coast, Sea-to-Sky corridor, and the city itself. The violet-creative visual identity that runs through our work isn't a style trend we adopted — it's the natural result of working consistently in Vancouver's cool northern light and making deliberate colour grading choices that prioritise tonal depth over surface warmth.
Every engagement at Mintcspark begins with a written brief — we call it a shoot specification — that defines the output format, intended distribution channel, stylistic constraints, and deliverable timeline before any deposit is taken. This isn't bureaucracy; it's how we prevent the single most common source of dissatisfaction in commercial photography: a client who expected 300 images and received 80, or who expected natural light and received strobes. We do portraits, weddings, commercial work, and events. We do not do real estate photography, newborn or maternity sessions, school or sports photography, or video production. These aren't disciplines we dabble in — they require dedicated equipment configurations and post-production pipelines that differ from what we do well. When a prospective client asks for something outside our scope, we'll refer them to practitioners we respect rather than attempt work we're not set up to deliver properly. We are also honest about results that depend on factors outside our control: ceremony timing, weather at outdoor venues, the energy in a room at a corporate event. We prepare for variability — we don't promise to eliminate it.
